Toys & Collectibles IV

BY: TOM FELICE

Welcome T.D.C. members to the 4th edition of the Toys & Collectibles portion of the newsletter. I, as always, hope that your collections are growing in leaps and bounds. I’d like to touch on a few more new items that I found out about just recently. First lets start off with a view back to last month’s newsletter where a 71 Charger 1:24th scale AMT/Ertl Co. model was mentioned. I have discovered that the box art looks to be a yellow 71 R/T w/black stripes & louvered doors & a bulge hood. As for the release, they still mention see your local retailer so keep an eye peeled for this one as its long awaited by third generation owners! The part# to look for is #30053.

Now as for a few more new kits coming soon by the Revell Co. The first one is a SLIXX Charger funny car and is also a third generation Charger with a lift up body this is scheduled to be released anywhere in the first six months of the 2000 year. Part number here is #85-2989 and is a 1:25 scale car.  I have noticed not a lot has been mentioned in regards to the first generation chargers (66-67). This is mainly because a lot of companies have not produced anything in quite some time on these cars, be it 1:64 on up to 1:18th. Well in staying with the Revell Co. that’s all about to change! Yes 67 fans & I’m sure 66 fans won’t mind either nor will Charger fans in general when I mention that they are going to be releasing a 67 Charger in the first half of 2000 Jan.-Jun. Part number to look for is #85-7669.

Now going to another scale, the 1:64th scale. This is your “matchbox” size car. There is sure a lot to talk about here at this time also, including our “What’s Hot” car. I mentioned three cars in the December newsletter. They were the 1:64 scale Racing Champions 69 Charger 500 cars. One in red and then brown both released and limited to 9,999. I also told you about a “Doors” the rock group car that was released as one of 9,998. This rock & roll edition is known as the Rockin’ Steel die cast version. Well I have two more additions to add to this line-up by Racing Champions. They are also 69 500’s one is a “WCW” this is a wrestling car with the wrestler STING on it. This car commemorates the “The Bash at the Beach”. This car is also limited to 9,999 and is out in stores as of January 2000. It’s white with STING written on the door, black roof and tail stripe. This other line is known as the Nitro Street Rods edition. The next car caught me by surprise just last week in a local Toys-R-Us store on 2/1/00. It is another one of the Rockin’ Steel editions mentioned above but is a Lynyrd Skynyrd 69 Charger 500. This car is Hemi orange all over but the roof has the bands name on it in red white & blue with stars & stripes & the car has the numbers 00 on the door. Sounds alot like another car we all are familiar with huh? Well these companies just continue to come out with more and more toys and collectibles. I really actually have a lot of catching up to do with a lot of older items that have already came out. I attempt to touch on one or more of these in each edition, but I have so much to keep reporting on that is quite an undertaking. This leads me to another older 1:64th scale not mentioned yet. Ever heard of a company known as Toy Island? Well just last year they came out with a 1:64th scale die cast 69 Charger. It was also a wrestling car, WWF to be exact.  The car is purple with opening doors and the “Undertaker” written on the side and a picture of him on the hood. The car is crude but is definitely a 69 Charger. It looks to have been an old Dukes mold as it has the push-bar on the front. Well that’s enough for now so until next time, lets see some of those collections I asked for in the last news letter and let’s see some pictures of some collections too with some info. on your collection (Refer to Toys & Collectibles III).  Thank you for your time.
