THE 1970 CHARGER

Major revisions to the styling in 1970 gave the Charger a bolder place in the market. New loop front bumper, hood, fenders, door scoops on the RT, high back bucket seat interior, tail light accent panel and high impact paint colors. All this set the 70 apart from its predecessors and make them stand out collectibles today. New for 1970 was the XH29 Hardtop base model. Designed to help hold the line on cost and make the car more versatile with its bench seat. The XP29 Hardtop was continued with the 500 moniker attached but carrying the same body style as the XH29. THE XS29 RT also was offered. The previous year’s XX29 cars the 500 and Daytona were not factory offered. A dealer installed kit could be ordered for a Daytona nose and wing. I have not as yet registered any 1970 with hard proof of this option. I do have two cars that report to have this. In years past some have felt that the 70 sales numbers indicated a dislike for the redesign. To the contrary sales were high if you consider that Chrysler was offering three new cars that year; aka Challenger, Duster and Cuda.
