THE 1966  CHARGER

The Leader of the Dodge Rebellion is born. The New Year 1966 brought a new car to Dodge’s line up. From dream car to reality the first production version of the 1965 Charger show car was here, and the rebellion was on. With electroluminescent dash, quad buckets, concealed headlamps, and a host of options, including five different engines, the Charger was an immediate success. The distinctive body design was offered as a XP29 hardtop only. As elephant powered versions began beating up brand X on the streets and tracks, David Pearson would win the Grand National Championship for his first time, behind the wheel of a Charger. The Dodge Boys would close the year with a special “birthday” package option consisting of a lower body stripe and conical hub caps. Total unit production 1966: 37,344. Sales totals for 1966: unknown (US)
